The moment you walk into Explorers Lodge, the theming hits immediately. The entire hotel is designed around a tropical forest and camping aesthetic — lush greenery, explorer-style decor, and a relaxed outdoor atmosphere that feels genuinely immersive rather than just decorative. It's a departure from the classic Disney castle fantasy — and honestly, it works.

The room: We had a standard room and it was large — genuinely large, not just hotel-marketing large. Two queen-sized beds that comfortably sleep four adults, which makes it one of the best value options for families or groups traveling together. If you need even more space, connecting rooms are available.

The highlight I didn't expect: We happened to be there during a character greeting with Mickey Mouse — and it was just there, unannounced, as part of the hotel's activity schedule. That's the thing about staying on property. These moments happen in the lobby, by the pool, at breakfast — and they're included in your stay.

The pool: Very relaxing, well-maintained, and a good size. Not just a token hotel pool — genuinely worth spending time at. We honestly had a good time here considering how hot it was in Hong Kong at our time of visit.

For families with kids: This is where Explorers Lodge really earns its keep. There's a schedule of activities throughout the day specifically for kids, and the whole hotel atmosphere is built around that energy. Check the schedule when you check in so you don't miss anything.

Disney's Hollywood Hotel 🎬

If Explorers Lodge is the adventure camp, Hollywood Hotel is the sleek, modern option. The vibe here is noticeably different — cleaner lines, contemporary design, and a more polished hotel feel.

We stayed in the Avengers Room — and yes, it is exactly as fun as it sounds. The room is themed with Avengers details throughout, from the artwork on the walls to the bedding, and it makes even just hanging out in the room feel like part of the Disney experience. There's also a Mickey and Friends themed room option if you prefer classic Disney over Marvel.

The room: Also two double beds, comfortable for up to four people — so the group capacity is the same as Explorers Lodge. The meaningful difference here is the bathroom: Disney's Hollywood Hotel has a bathtub, which Explorers Lodge doesn't. Small thing, but worth knowing if that matters to you.

Both hotels: Free water dispenser in the room and you can request ice whenever you need it — small touches that add up over a multi-day stay.

The On-Property Advantage Nobody Talks About Enough 🎟️

Here's the thing I want to make sure you understand before deciding: staying at any Disney hotel inside the resort gives you access to the amenities and activities of all three hotels — not just the one you're booked at. You can walk over to Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel for the atmosphere, swing by Explorers Lodge for the pool, and then come back to Hollywood Hotel for the evening. It's all connected, and it all comes with your room key.

As a hotel guest, you also have free shuttle services to and from the park, and even going around other hotels. In the Hong Kong Disneyland Park, you even have a designated entrance – specifically for hotel guests only.

That cross-resort access is a genuinely underrated perk — and it's something you simply don't get when staying at an off-site hotel, no matter how close or how good the deal looks.

Especially if you're traveling with kids, or if this is your first Disneyland experience anywhere in the world.

If you're purely optimizing for the cheapest sleep before a day in the park, book something nearby. But if you want the full experience — and you want to be able to say you stayed inside Hong Kong Disneyland — any of these three hotels delivers.
